Meet the experienced and friendly doctors and staff who make Eyes on Main the leading provider of vision care products and services in Boyne City.

Dr. PeterPeter Oppermann, O.D.

Grayling High School graduate with honors.

Bachelors of Vision Science: 1995 Ferris State University with honors.

Doctorate 1998 Michigan College of Optometry with honors.

Dr. Oppermann specializes in the eye health examination of patients of all ages, including the management of complicated eye disease as well as recommendation of all forms of eye wear.

He is the father of two children, enjoys downhill skiing, hunting, boating, fishing and various other outdoor activities.

Dr. Oppermann is an active member of the Rotary Club of Gaylord, the Michigan Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. He also serves as an Administrator for Vision Source of Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula.


Nathan R. Slezak, O.D.

Bachelor of Science , 2006 Central Michigan University.

Doctorate of Optometry 2010 with Highest Distinction, Michigan College of Optometry

Dr. Slezak specializes in eye health examinations for patients of all ages, including complicated eye diseases. He also recommends all forms of eye wear.

Dr. Slezak is a assistant football coach for the Gaylord St. Mary Snowbirds. His professional associations include the Michigan Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association.  He is married and has a child and another on the way.


Lindsey Wynkoop, O.D.

Lindsey Wynkoop, O.D. received her bachelor’s degree in Vision Science from Ferris State University and her doctorate at the Michigan College of Optometry.

She moved to the Fiji Islands in 2012 to pursue a position in educating and training general doctors and nurses from all over the Pacific Island at the Pacific Eye Institute.

Dr. Wynkoop provides comprehensive eye care services including: primary ocular health assessment, glaucoma management, ocular surface disease, pre/post-operative surgical care, and specialty contact lens fitting.

Dr. Wynkoop returned to Michigan in 2017 to join our practice, she is married and has a child.

 Johanna Mauk, O.D.Johanna Mauk

Undergraduate: Northwestern Michigan College, Bachelor of Science: Ferris State University.

Doctorate of Optometry: Michigan College of Optomety

Dr. Mauk has experience in primary eye care, as well as ocular disease and contact lenses.  She also has pediatric and low vision experience.

Married to Jeff, Dr. Mauk enjoys spending time with family and her Boston Terriers, Iris and Max, trying new recipes and riding both her road and mountain bike.


Dr. MeadRonald Mead, O.D.

Undergraduate: Central Michigan University, Ferris State University

Doctor of Optometry: Ferris State College of Optometry

Married to Lori, childen: Jason, Kristin, Cameron and Trevor.

Dr. Mead’s professional associations include the Michigan Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. He serves as a Vision Source Adminstrator for Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. His professional associations include the Michigan Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association.

Hobbies include: Golf, computer.


Robert Slezak, O.D.Dr. Robert

Bachelor of Science in Education, 1975 Central Michigan University.

Graduate work in Biology 1976-1980.

Doctorate 1985 (FSU) Michigan College of Optometry – Valedictorian of his graduating class.

Dr. Bob Slezak semi-retired in May 2016, but will be available on an as needed basis.

Dr. Slezak specializes in eye health examinations for patients of all ages, including complicated eye diseases. He also recommends all forms of eye wear.

He is married to Mary, has 2 sons, Ryan and Nathan, and a growing number of grandchildren. He is an avid fly fisherman and golfer. He taught high school for 6 years before becoming an optometrist.

Dr. Slezak is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Gaylord. His professional associations include the Michigan Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. He serves as an Administrator for Vision Source of Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula.


Annette WilsonAnnette

Annette has worked for Eyes on Main since 2002. Her duties include handling all aspects of testing for patients, including tests prior to being seen by the doctor and special testing for eye disease. Annette is happy to assist in any area of need, so she is able to assist our new contact lens wearers as well as selecting new eye glasses and adjusting and repairing your eyewear.

Annette is married and very busy with two children and two grandchildren.


BridgetBridget Peck

Bridget has over two decades of optical experience.

Bridget’s responsibilities include helping a patient choose their personal eyewear that best meet their visual needs, verify prescriptions, order frames, lenses and contact lenses. She also dispenses eyewear and contact lenses.

Bridget also instructs new contact lens wearers on how to insert, remove and handle their new contact lenses. She works directly with our frame and lens representatives to make sure that Eyes on Main carries the latest styles and trends in frames and lenses.

Bridget is married and enjoys time with her children and grandchildren.


JanieJanie Amesbury

Janie works in Boyne City and Bellaire, primarily, but can occasionally be found in our Gaylord location. With over two decades in the optical industry, her main job responsibility is to assist in the fitting of eyewear, she also trains new contact lens wearers on how to insert and remove contact lenses. She is also trained to perform testing prior to the patient seeing the doctor, including optical coherence tomography.

Janie lives in Boyne City and is married with two children and a growing number of grandchildren.


TrudyTrudy Hausler

Trudy has many years’ experience as an insurance biller. She began working at Eyes on Main in 2002. Trudy is responsible for billing insurance for all of our locations.  She is well-known throughout the northern Michigan region among Vision Source as a billing expert and is called upon for her knowledge in this field.

Trudy is married with three children and recently had her first grandchild.


Chelsey Combs

Chelsey joined our staff in 2017. She will be splitting her time at Eyes on Main between work at the front of the office and back with patient care.  She is able to quickly check insurance and make appointments, schedule appointment and check patients in for their appointments.  She has a background from her other employment in accounting, reception and banking, so she is well-versed in getting things done at the front desk. She is enjoying the experience of technician and preparing each patient for their eye examination.  She has an extensive background in customer service and wicked smile! She is quickly developing a love for amazing eye wear!

When not busy working at Eyes on Main, Chelsey enjoys gardening, spending time with her family friends, including her fur friends.

 KK new (457x640)Kami Knopp, CPOA

Kami began working for Bellaire Eye Center / Gaylord Eye Care Center / Eyes on Main in 1991. She is a Certified Paraoptometric Assistant and the Office Coordinator.

Kami is the office manager at Gaylord Eye Care Center and works in all three of our offices. Kami does billing and front desk duties, as well as assisting with frame selections and repairs. She also instructs patients on how to insert and remove contact lenses, as well as working directly with our contact lens representatives and companies to make sure that we are up to date on the latest in contact lens trends.

Kami has extensive training on all levels of preliminary testing, including slit lamp evaluation of contact lenses, topography, optical coherence tomography and retinal photography. She also does intra-ocular pressures, corneal measurements, visual fields and visual acuities.

She is married with three children. She enjoys reading and bowling.


MeLissa Olson, CPOA

MeLissa began working for Gaylord Eye Care Center, Inc. in 1991 and is the  Manager for Gaylord Eye Care Center, Bellaire Eye Center and Eyes on Main. She is a Certified Paraoptometric Assistant. MeLissa serves as the Vision Source Representative Facilitator for Northern Michigan and the Upper Penninsula.

MeLissa has many years experience in insurance billing and coding, as well as administrative responsibilities.  She represents our offices at many health fairs and senior citizen clinics around the area.

MeLissa is married with 3 grown children and 6 grandchildren. She likes to spend her spare time as a volunteer with the American Cancer Society with Relay For Life and as a Road to Recovery driver, and has been a mentor through the Lunch Buddy program for BB/BS of Otsego County. She is also a former member of the Great Lakes Division training team and is the State Lead Ambassador for the American Cancer Society Action Network (ACS CAN). She also enjoys spending time with family, reading, scrapbooking and genealogy.
